If the fight between Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. takes place, one of the natural undercard matches could be showdown between their brothers, Ramon 'Inocente' Alvarez and Omar Chavez.
However, Alvarez - who is the older brother of Canelo - prefers to have a rematch with Antonio Margarito than a second helping with Omar Chavez, who is the younger brother of Julio Jr. Alvarez already decisioned Omar over ten rounds back in 2014.
Alvarez (24-5-2, 16KOs) returned to the ring last Saturday night and knocked out Matthew Strode in four rounds. It was his first fight since losing a ten round split decision to Margarito (40-8, 27KOs) in August.
"They have not told me anything about fighting with Omar in the United States. They have not mentioned it, but obviously he would be ready," Alvarez said to ESPN Deportes.
"Although it's a fight that does not draw that much attention from me, I want to get up and get the thorn out of my side with that loss to Margarito. Hopefully a rematch will be given, but if the other fight is negotiated [with Chavez] it is fine, although it is not something I crave."
"The fight with Margarito is what I want. I want to clarify things with him. We will try to see what's the best thing for my career. I was well on my way to a championship fight, but we lost with Margarito and against him I can start that race again. Zanfer has told me that there are good things to come in my career and they want me to go to fight in the United States."
Canelo and Chavez Jr. have been negotiating and after an agreement on the issue of weight, apparently at 165 pounds, they have to reach an agreement with the economics for their fight, which if finalized would take place on May 6th.
