Earlier today, a court ordered mediation took place before Judge Abby Cynamon for the ongoing legal suit between Golden Boy Promotions and All Star Boxing, with respect to the promotional agreement of Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. Both sides were unable to reach an agreement, so the matter will head to trial on December 8 at the Miami-Dade County Court in Miami, Florida.
All Star Boxing, owned by Felix 'Tutico' Zabala, filed a lawsuit in 2009 against Canelo for breach of contract and against his current company, Golden Boy, whom he accused of unlawful interference with his contract deal. The suit also includes punitive damages.
Zabala claims Canelo signed a four year promotional agreement with his company in 2008, and the contract would be extended if Canelo became world champion Canelo became the WBC junior middleweight champion in 2011. Zabala claims Golden Boy knew he had a valid promotional agreement when they allegedly provided Canelo with money to sign him up.
"It was a ordered mediation. And we met as we were cited by the law," said Gonzalez to Carlos Narvaez. "The mediation turned up nothing, so we continue [to trial on]December 8."
