(AP) BILOXI, Miss. - The drug trial of three-time boxing champion Hector "Macho" Camacho is set for Aug. 14.
Harrison County Circuit Judge Kosta Vlahos set the date Tuesday.
Camacho (79-5-2, 38 KOs) was charged with burglary of a Gulfport computer shop on Dec. 2, 2004. Biloxi police also charged him with drug possession after officers said they found him with 10 ecstasy pills in a hotel room when they arrested him on Jan. 6, 2005.
Camacho denied the drug charge during an interview with The Sun Herald and apologized to boxing fans for the burglary charge.
Camacho said he was drinking alcohol the night of the alleged burglary and decided to retrieve his laptop computer from a repair shop in an office adjoining his office space. He said he wormed his way across the ceiling and fell in.
Camacho is a former super featherweight, lightweight and junior welterweight champion. His last title bout came against then-welterweight champion Oscar De La Hoya in 1997, a loss by unanimous decision.
Camacho has had several brushes with the law involving drugs, domestic assault and driving violations. When he was 16, he served 3½ months in a New York prison for auto theft.
