Earlier tonight, there was good news and bad news for Joe Calzaghe. The good news, was that Calzaghe retained the WBO super middleweight title with a unanimous decision win over Evans Ashira. The scores were 120-108 120-108 and 120-107.

The bad news, was that Calzaghe suffered an injury to his left hand in round three and fought the rest of the 12 round bout using only his right hand. Because of the injury, the November 5th bout with Jeff Lacy is likely off.

"I thought I was going to stop him early. If my left hand was there I could have kept the pace. Unfortunately it went and I had to out-box him. I had to jab my way to victory after four rounds. If my left hand was fine I think he would have pulled out or I'd have knocked him out in four or five rounds." said Calzaghe

"I very much doubt that it is going to go on (the November fight with Calzaghe). He is never going to be ready for that so we'll try to rearrange it for next year. It is frustrating for Joe but these things happen in boxing." said Frank Warren, promoter of Joe Calzaghe
