According to numerous sources in the UK, the much talked about showdown between Joe Calzaghe and Roy Jones Jr. is still being slated for November 15. The television networks seem to favor that date. Nothing is set in stone regarding Jones being the final opponent of Calzaghe before a promised retirement, but there are many, including Calzaghe's own handlers, that list Jones as the heavy favorite to get the fight.
A problem has come up with booking the fight at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. The venue has already booked four rugby internationals, including a game between Wales and Canada on the slated date of November 15. Scheduling conflicts may rule out Cardiff for every Saturday in November.
Promoter Frank Warren has not ruled out the possibility of the fight heading to a venue Las Vegas, but I'm not sure how happy Calzaghe's fans would be if their Welsh hero stepped in the ring for the final time in American instead of the UK. Some sources have suggested the O2 Arena. The only alternative would be to change the working date and/or month of the fight. Warren would have to make sure the date works for all of the television networks, especially HBO.
