Reigning WBO/IBF super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe is not concerned about making a fight with rival WBA/WBC champion Mikkel Kessler. All he can think about is luring Bernard Hopkins out of retirement for a mega bout on American soil.
Fresh off his points win over Sakio Bika at the MEN Arena in Manchester on Saturday, Calzaghe has and his promoter Frank Warren, are going to set their sights on Hopkins.
"Hopkins is a true champion. He is talking about coming back to fight heavyweights but I think that is rubbish. I think he would love to step up to the challenge to fight me" Calzaghe said.
Frank Warren said that Calzaghe will return in February, and Hopkins is at the top of the list as his opponent. They would like the fight to take place in America, but also said the fight could happen anywhere.
"There will definitely be a big fight in February. We have got the possibility of the Hopkins fight and who knows, it could be history in the making. If he fought Hopkins it could happen wherever. There is no problem travelling - the fact of the matter is I don't think Hopkins would come here but Joe would go to America," Warren said.
