Hall of Famer Joe Calzaghe has his doubts that Carl Froch (33-2, 24KOs) will return to the ring for a fight with WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady "GGG" Golovkin (33-0, 30KOs).
There has been some discussion about the two of them colliding, with Golovkin moving up to super middleweight to make the match - but Froch is still unsure of his future. Froch has been inactive since last May's knockout of George Groves before a crowd of 80,000 at Wembley.
Froch has flip-flopped on whether he would face Golovkin. For a few weeks he was very talkative about the fight, but then went silent.
Calzaghe likes the fight. A big factor in the contest is whether or not Golovkin will be able to carry his power to the higher weight and deal with a bigger man.
"That's a tough one. Obviously Triple G has massive punching power, but when you step up a weight...will it carry? He can be outboxed, Triple G. But Froch is quite slow himself. So, do you know what? That's quite an entertaining fight for the fans. You have two big punchers. If he carries up the weight to super middleweight, the power....just remember that Triple G has been active and Carl Froch has not boxed in over a year. [Froch has] made a lot of money. Does he really want to take a risk against a dangerous puncher like Triple G? I doubt it," Calzaghe told BoxingScene.com.
