Callum Smith has been named Boxer of the Year at the British Boxing Board of Control Awards Dinner in London.

Smith claimed the top prize after winning the inaugural series of the World Boxing Super Series at super-middleweight, beating George Groves in the final to win the WBA title in the process.

Smith’s trainer, Joe Gallagher, has been named trainer of year.

The other WBSS winner, Oleksandr Usyk, was named overseas boxer of the year for his knockout win over Tony Bellew in Manchester last November.

Josh Warrington and Carl Frampton won contest of the year for their IBF featherweight title fight in December.

Josh Taylor, the IBF super-lightweight champion and last year’s boxer of the year, won the Dennie Mancini Award, chosen by the Commonwealth Boxing Council.
