The trainer of Ivan Calderon is very concerned that Giovanni Segura arrived on Sunday in Puerto Rico with trainer Javier Capetillo by his side. Calderon and Segura are scheduled for a junior flyweight unification clash this Saturday in Puerto Rico.
Capetillo had his trainer's license taken away in February 2009 by the California State Athletic Commission. He was the culprit who placed the inserts, laced with plaster of Paris, into the hand wraps of Antonio Margarito in January 2009. Margarito has always claimed the trainer acted without his knowledge.
Calderon's Jose "Cheche" Sanchez, does not want Capetillo working the corner of Segura or involved in the wrapping of his hands. Sanchez will have someone from their corner paying close attention to the wrapping of Segura's hands and he is going to have someone inspect the hands before the gloves are placed on.
"To be in the corner of Segura, he has to be licensed. If not, he can not be there. He can't be in the dressing room if he is not licensed," Sanchez told Jose Fournier.
Trainer Arturo Mota and his son, Richard Mota, are expected to take the lead in Segura's corner.
