Former undisputed two division champion Ivan "Iron Boy" Calderon (34-1-1) of Puerto Rico is looking for redemption on April 2nd when he faces Giovani "The Aztec Warrior" Segura (26-1-1) in a rematch of what was many publications 2010 Fight of The Year. Calderon had the home turf advantage in the first fight and Segura will be at home in the rematch as the fight takes place in Mexico.
Calderon boxed and moved as he usually does in the first few rounds of the first fight. Segura concentrated on going to the body in the early rounds and his efforts paid off as Calderon began to slow down in the middle rounds. That is when Calderon began to stand and trade with his heavy handed opponent. Calderon explained his change in strategy to BoxingScene.com. "I didn't have my legs after the first few rounds. I am not taking anything away from Segura. He fought a great fight and he went to my body early and it took away my legs. That is why I ended up standing and trading with him. I couldn't move like I wanted to."
Calderon revealed that he did get caught up in the moment and wanted to put on a show for the hometown fans. "I always wanted to be in a Fight of the Year type of fight. Unfortunately I was on the wrong end of the fight. He slowed me down with those early body shots and when he knocked me down (In the 8th round) I knew I wasn't going to be able to finish the fight. I will be in better shape for this fight and look to put on a great show."
Many critics have said that at 36 years old Calderon is past his prime and has lost his legs. It has also been said that the rematch will end very similarily to the first fight. The Puerto Rican said that he isn't worried about the critics and that he will prove he still can move and be an effective boxer. "There will always be critics. It will be different this time around. I still have my legs. On April 2nd I will show everybody that I still have it even at 36 years old."
