The first option for the former 108-pound champion of the WBO, Ivan Calderon, is a rematch in March with Giovani Segura, but if negotiations are unsuccessful there is a plan 'B' to challenge the winner of Saturday's fight, which takes place in Argentina, where Luis Alberto Lazarte defends his IBF junior flyweight crown against former champion Ulises Solis.
"Segura is the first option and that would be for March and in Puerto Rico since the first fight was successful there, but it may also take place in the United States. Another alternative is to fight the winner between Lazarte and Solis, who are fighting on the 18th in Argentina. We have to wait until Friday to see what happens," said Ivan Rivera, President of Puerto Rico Best Boxing.
On the other hand, Rivera said that Roman "Rocky" Martinez, the former champion of the WBO at 130-pounds, might reappear on February 5 in Puerto Rico on a card which also involves the undefeated Jose 'Chelo "González.
"We want him to be active because we want him to fight for a world title again in 2011. And Chelo is going to fight there. Everything indicates that the event will be in Rodríguez Coliseum in Bayamon," Rivera said.
