WBO light flyweight champion Ivan Calderon is calling 2008 "the year of unification." Calderon wants to fight either WBC counterpart Edgar Sosa (30-5, 16KOs), or IBF titleholder Ulises Solis (26-1, 20KOs), next.

"This is going to be a good year for me," Calderon said to Primera Hora. "Do I have preference among Solís or Sosa? I want either of the two.  The first one that gives me the opportunity.  One is more of a boxer and the other is more of a puncher.  Both of them are Mexicans, they are good fighters. I respect them as the athletes and I believe that with either would be a big opportunity for me."

Several weeks ago, a report in El Nuevo Dia reported that Peter Rivera, Calderon's manager, had already initiated talks with Top Rank for a unification bout with Solis. According to sources, talks are ongoing.

"We already initiated the negotiations process. Everything is in place for us to do the fight with Solís," expressed Rivera. "Already we are speaking with Top Rank and now we have to see what they decide. We have to see if Solís' team accepts the fight and when they plan to return to ring."
