Anthony Cacace (8-0), fighting out of Philadelphia, PA by way of Belfast, Ireland, will be fighting for the 2nd time in his career in the United States. He will be a part of the "Irish Fight Party" LIVE around the WORLD on GFL.tv, which will be headlined by Tevin Farmer vs Carlos Vinan as well as the return of Kassim Ouma.
Boxingscene.com had the chance to catch up with Anthony to discuss his fight, career, moving to the US, Tyson Fury, Khan vs Mayweather and much more. Here is what he had to say:
Boxingscene.com: How is training camp for tonight?
Anthony Cacace: Training camp is going brilliant. I started out with a new coach. I have been sparring away and getting good work in. it has been going well.
Boxingscene.com: Who have you been sparring with in Philly?
Anthony Cacace: I have been sparring with his son (Derek Ennis) and other guys from his gym. I have also been sparring with Victor Vasquez and Danny O'Connor.
Boxingscene.com: What inspired your move to the United States?
Anthony Cacace: For me it was because lack of anything happening back home. Boxing over here is a lot better than boxing back home. I am trying to move my career on. There was more to it the move to Philly. I had worked at home with McGinley who was working with Tom Moran so I decided to tag along.
Boxingscene.com: What is the difference in boxing over here and in the UK?
Anthony Cacace: Fighting is held to a lower standard over there than here. Here you can spar with guys with 1 amateur fight over here and they can rumble all day with you. The level of competition over here makes you better.
Boxingscene.com: What did you think about your last opponent Osnel Charles?
Anthony Cacace: I thought Osnel Charles was a good opponent for me and from the day I was told I was boxing him I gave him all of the respect. I thought I was a level above Osnel Charles and I proved it on that night. If Osnel Charles was fighting in Britian he would have a much better record.
Boxingscene.com: What are you plans for 2014?
Anthony Cacace: The plans are to come straight back out here and get as many fights as I can out here. I was already Irish champ out there and the only thing else is the British titles but there is a lot of politics out there in Britain.
Boxingscene.com: What does it mean to you to be able to fight in front of a worldwide audience on GFL.tv?
Anthony Cacace: It's brilliant. For my friends and family back home it is brilliant for them to be able to watch live.
Boxingscene.com: Who were some of the fighters that inspired you?:
Anthony Cacace: Locally Brian Magee since he was a world champion as well a Ricky Hatton who I followed all through my childhood. Those were the most influential to me.
Boxingscene.com: What are your thoughts on the UK sometimes using the referee to be the sole judge?
Anthony Cacace: I think it's better to have the fights judged by 3 judges instead of 1 referee because if that referee is bad it will ruin a fight. It could turn your career upside down because of a bad referee.
Boxingscene.com: When it is time to sign to a promoter will you be looking to sign in the UK or over here?
Anthony Cacace: Hopefully I will be signing to a promoter over here. That is what the goal is. I am just hoping to beat some good fighters over here and catch someone's eye.
Boxingscene.com: If Khan-Mayweather does happen, do you feel he is deserving or will it be a one sided drubbing in favor of Mayweather?
Anthony Cacace: I don't think he has earned it and I think if it does happen Mayweather will beat him around the ring like a little boy. I don't think Khan has beat any body at that standard.
Boxingscene.com: What are your thoughts on Haroon Khan?
Anthony Cacace: I don't know much about him. When I was in the amateurs he was always younger than me so i can't comment on that one.
Boxingscene.com: How about Hughie Fury?
Anthony Cacace: I got a chance to watch him before I came over. He looked impressive. He could be a good heavyweight but only time will tell. If he keeps coming on the way he is he could be a potential champion.
Boxingscene.com: Should Tyson Fury give Derek Chisora a rematch?
Anthony Cacace: I think he blew his chance. I watched Chisora a few times and don't think he has the potential to become champion.
Boxingscene.com: What can fans watching around the world on GFL.tv tonight?
Anthony Cacace: I expect a win myself especially if I box the guy. I like to switch up a lot from southpaw to orthodox. I don't know who to compare myself to I am unique.
Tonight, December 11th, Kassim Ouma will take on Rahman Yousubov (9-12) over the course of 6 rounds in his return to boxing & the Jr. Middleweight division. In the Main event Tevin "American Idol" Farmer will fight for the 7th time in 2013 against battle tested veteran Carlos Vinan (10-11-5). Undefeated Heavyweights Anthony "Jucie" Young (9-0) & Dorsett Barnwell (10-0) will see action also in separate bouts plus much more. Also on the card, "Green Blood" fighters Anthony Cacace & Tyrone McKenna will fight in separate bouts.
