On Saturday night at Baja California, Mexico, Celestino Caballero retained his IBF/WBA super bantamweight titles with an eight round stoppage of Francisco Leal. From the start of the fight, Leal was overmatched and too small to pose a problem to Caballero. The champion punished him until the fight was stopped with only 10 seconds left in the eight.
Now Caballero is looking at a January 23 showdown with WBO champ Juan Manuel Lopez. Lopez defends his title on October 10 against Rogers Mtagwa in New York City. The two fighters have been exchanging verbal jabs in the press for several months. The fight will likely take place on Juanma's battleground of Puerto Rico.
