On the undercard to Klitschko-Gomez at the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer Halle in Stuttgart, Germany, former heavyweight champion Chris Byrd (41-5-1, 22KOs) returned to the ring as a cruiserweight, stopping late replacement Mathias Sandow (4-4, 3KOs) in four rounds.

Byrd returns from last May's one-sided nine round knockout loss to Shaun George at light heavyweight. Byrd looked in better form at cruiser but he was fighting an opponent that had little to no chance of winning. Byrd boxed the majority of the fight until letting his hands go in the fourth to force the ref to step in.

After the fight, Byrd spoke to reporters and called for an immediate fight with cruiserweight king Tomasz Adamek. Based on the kind of fighter he beat, Byrd should get at least two or three more fights under his belt before he tries to fight Adamek.
