MONTREAL - Lucian Bute, one of the top boxing prospects in Canada, has signed a new contract with InterBox.

InterBox co-owner Eric Lucas is to announce the signing at a news conference prior to Bute's super-middleweight bout on Tuesday night at the Bell Centre against Lolenga Mock of Denmark.

The contract is for two years, Le Journal de Montreal reported.

Bute (16-0), a native of Romania based in Montreal since 2003, is ranked in the top 10 in the world and is expected to fight for a world title within a year.

The six-foot-two left-hander is the top fighter in the InterBox stable, which includes unbeaten light heavyweight Adrian Diaconu (21-0), former Canadian Olympians Antonin
Decarie (8-0) and Benoit Gaudet (8-0) and others.

The 26-year-old Bute's contract was to expire in October. He had reportedly drawn interest from American and European promoters.
