Veteran promoter Javier Bustillo had his fingers crossed that local officials would allow him to hold a boxing card with spectators on July 18 in Lajas.

However, the new executive order announced by Governor Wanda Vázquez rejected that idea.  For Bustillo, president of Universal Promotions, the determination fell on him like a bucket of cold water.

Bustillo said that his complaints were communicated directly to the office of the secretary of the Department of Recreation and Sports (DRD), Adriana Sánchez Parés, and none of them have been addressed.

“There is bad advice given to the secretary. We have sent letters explaining that the boys will be tested for COVID-19 the day before and the day of the fights. There are no risks. We also communicated that the event would be outdoors in a baseball park. They are going to allow people to go to a cinema, a place that is proven to be a more contagious place," Bustillo stressed.

Bustillo mentioned that Sánchez Parés has been sent the protocols that would be implemented during a function, but they have not received a reply from her.

“The secretary (Sánchez Parés) has not cared about boxing. I have been in boxing for a long time and she is the first one that doesn't listen to us. All of the above have attended boxing, but she does not listen to us, nor has she given us an audience. I have sent her two letters that she has not replied to. She has ignored what I have said publicly," said Bustillo.
