Former heavyweight champion Buster Douglas, 56-years-old, believes WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao would win a rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Back in February of 1990, Douglas was a 42-1 underdog when he pulled off what many still consider to be the biggest upset in boxing history when he knocked out Mike Tyson in the tenth round before a shocked crowd in Tokyo, Japan.
Mayweather, 40, won a twelve round unanimous decision over Pacquiao in May 2015 in Las Vegas.
Mayweather-Pacquiao generated over $600 million in record revenues, and 4.6 million buys on pay-per-view.
Douglas scored the first fight for Mayweather, but felt it was close. He believes Pacquiao has what it takes to fully change the fight around in the rematch.
Mayweather retired from the sport in September 2015 after beating Andre Berto. He is willing to fight again, but for the moment he has no interest in another Pacquiao bout - despite that contest likely doing big profit numbers. Mayweather is only interested in a bout with UFC superstar Conor McGregor, who is willing to do that bout in a boxing ring.
Pacquiao is going to fight again in July, possibly against 2012 Australian Olympian Jeff Horn.
“I like to see Manny fight Mayweather (again). Their first fight was close but I think in his next fight he’ll be more dominant. I think he will come out victorious,” said Douglas. “Manny is incredible, he’s got great handspeed, footwork. If he catches him at the right time he definitely could put his lights out,” Douglas told Tempo.
“[Pacquiao has] had a great career and is still doing well. Future still looks bright. He can go as long as he wants to go if he still has that burning desire to be the world ‘s best. He’s a remarkable individual and I have a lot of respect for what he’s been doing in and out of the ring.”
