BoxingScene.com spoke to former two-divison champion Ricardo "El Matador" Mayorga shortly after Floyd Mayweather's fourth round knockout of Victor Ortiz, which took place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Mayorga last fought in March when he was knocked out by Miguel Cotto in the twelfth round of their WBA title fight. Mayorga showed up in tremedous shape and gave Cotto a tougher fight than a lot of insiders expected. The flamboyant Mayorga told BoxingScene that he plans to return to the ring in January against IBF junior middleweight champion Cornelius "K9" Bundrage.
"I am looking to fight again in January. I will fight against Bundrage for his title," Mayorga told BoxingScene.
Earlier today I reached out to Bundrage to gauge his interest in the potential matchup.
"If they make a good offer I would be interested. If it don't make dollars then it don't make sense. Team K9 is on top for a reason!"
The former Contender series participant went on to say if the fans are interested in the fight then he has no problem facing the outspoken Nicaraguan.
"If the fans want to see it then lets do it," said Bundrage in closing.
