BoxingScene.com was advised by several sources that Budd Schulberg, a well-known screenwriter, novelist and sports writer, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 95. Schulberg had been in poor health for the last few months but he was still very active and always on the move. Schulberg was the former chief boxing correspondent at Sports Illustrated. He was inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame in 2003.

Schulberg was best known for his 1941 novel What Makes Sammy Run , his 1947 novel The Harder They Fall , his 1954 screenplay  On the Waterfront [that won him an Academy award, starred Marlon Brando and rated as one of the top 101 movies of all time by IMDB], and his 1957 screenplay  A Face in the Crowd .
