MANILA - Veteran boxer Carlito Brosas has three goals in his expected hard fight against Chinese juggernaut Xhi Lin Xia. The bout is for the vacant World Boxing Empire (WBE) Asia Pacific welterweight title and takes place on October 29 at the Mandaluyong Sports Complex in the Philippines.

Brosas said in an interview yesterday that he is motivated to win against Xia, the first Chinese fighter in history to see action in Philippine ring. He wants to contribute in the fast surging confidence of his countrymen after the victories of Manny Pacquiao, Brian “Filipino-Hawaiian Punch” Viloria, Rey “Boom Boom” Baustista and other RP boxers in the United States.

“Filipinos’ pride is at stake that’s why I will do my best (to win) so that we can’t be ashamed,” said Brosas, a native of San Juan, Metro Manila who used to fight out of Hollywood, California in 2001.

The 5-foot-10 veteran boxer-puncher expects a difficult fight 12-round fight against the two-inch taller foe, but admitted that his desire to re-solidify his standing as one of the game's premiere welterweights and win a belt for the first time will lead him to victory.

“I expect he’ll also do everything to win, so expect a war in the ring,” added Brosas, now Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) and WBE Asia Pacific Boxing Association ranked No. 6 and No. 3, respectively.

Xia, the first registered Chinese prizefighter who is nicknamed “Rock”, is a 25-year old, 6-foot and right-handed fighter with a 75 inches wingspan. He has nine professional fights that scattered to 7 wins, 2 loses with 3 by by way of knockouts.

The weekly Elorde Boxing Special of Gabriel Elorde Jr and Jemah’s Marc Roces will televise the title fight now dubbed “Eastern Brawl” for its regular telecast, Thursday 9-10 p.m time slot over IBC Channel 13 on November 5 in the Philippines.
