IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (36-0, 25KOs) has snapped out at British middleweight champion Chris Eubank Jr.
Eubank Jr. has slammed IBF/IBO/WBC/WBA middleweight champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (35-0, 32KOs) for accepting a fight with Brook for September 10th at the O2 Arena in London.
There were negotiations for a Golovkin-Eubank fight for several weeks, but they fell apart a few days ago - with Golovkin-Brook getting announced on Friday.
According to Eubank's promoter, Eddie Hearn of Matchroom, there were serious issues with reaching an agreement with his own fighter. Hearn also promotes Brook and decided to give him the opportunity.
Hearn says Eubank, and his father/manager Chris Eubank Sr., were demanding operational control of the entire event. Once the fight fell apart, Hearn reached out to Brook, who accepted the fight and signed a contract 24 hours later.
Brook will retain his status as the IBF' welterweight champion and now moves up by thirteen pounds to face one of the most dangerous fighters in the sport.
It didn't take long before Brook felt a need to respond to Eubank. Like Golovkin, Brook doubts Eubank Jr. was ever serious about wanting to fight GGG.
Brook then hit out at Eubank by stating - "Chris Eubank, you never wanted the fight. I'll show you how to deal with Golovkin."
