Britain's amateurs had a day of mixed fortunes at the European Championships in Minsk. While Joe Cordina was beaten in the 60kg category, Aston Brown and Anthony Fowler won in the 75kg division.
Cordina, fighting out of the St Joseph's club in Newport, was beaten 3-0 by Azerbaijan's Elvin Isayev in his qualifying tie. He lost a tight first round and looked to have done well in the second and third, but was scored 28-29, 28-29, 27-30.
Brown was a 3-0 winner, seeing off Poland's Ireneusz Zakrzewski. The Scot connected with some tidy jabs and hooks and next faces the second-seeded Bogdan Juratoni.
Fowler, from Liverpool's Golden Gloves club, swept past Aljaz Venko of Slovenia, taking all three rounds. Fowler was never troubled and will face Germany's 2012 Olympian Stefan Haertel next.
