Brian Mendoza (19-2) cannot wait to get back in the ring on Saturday night when he faces Benjamin Whitaker (15-7). The fight takes place on the Tim Tszyu-Terrell Gausha undercard that takes place at the Armory in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The Las Vegas based Mendoza was last in action September when he dropped a unanimous decision to Jesus Ramos at the same venue.
After the loss Mendoza decided to make some adjustments to his game and went back to the lab with his long time trainer Ismael Salas. Mendoza said that he plans on making a statement on Saturday night.
“I think it’s a good fight for me to showcase some of the big changes I’ve made as well as new things I’m working on. He’s upset some undefeated fighters but I’ve had an amazing camp so I’m coming in ready for anything,” Mendoza told BoxingScene.com.
Ramos, who is considered one of the sports rising stars is the biggest name on Mendoza’s resume. He hopes that with a win over Whitaker he will get back to fighting at that level.
“Yes, that is the goal but to get there I have to get through this opponent first. My focus is on this guy 100% and we will go from there,” said Mendoza.
Prior to the loss to Ramos, Mendoza picked up the biggest win of his career, a unanimous decision over Thomas “Cornflake” LaManna.
