As previously reported by BoxingScene.com, WBA "regular" super middleweight champion Karoly Balzsay is now officially removed from the unification fight against interim-ruler Brian Magee (36-4-1, 25KOs). Balzsay cited a back injury and he supplied the WBA with medical evidence.
Magee vs Balzsay was first set for July 7 but there were rumors, later confirmed, that Balzsay wasn´t even in training for the fight and later stories surfaced that Universum owed Balzsay money for at least one fight. Still, Team Magee moved the date to September 22 but it´s now off.
Team Magee now has permission from the WBA to pick a ranked opponent from the top 15 or an opponent approved by the championship committee - and the will fight for the regular title. Magee's management is looking for a date in October or November.
