Veteran trainer Brian 'Bomac' McIntyre is free to return home to America.

McIntyre pleaded guilty to two firearm offences and was given a 20-month suspended prison sentence at a sentencing hearing at Manchester Crown Court. The sentence is suspended for a period of two years.

Ollie McManus (@OliverGMcManus) was in court and reported that a long list of character witnesses ‘“from across the pond” - including undisputed welterweight champion Terence Crawford - were in attendance to provide character witness statements for McIntyre.

McIntyre, who has guided pound-for-pound great, Crawford, to undisputed titles at junior welterweight and welterweight, was in the UK to train middleweight contender Chris Eubank Jr. for his rematch victory over Liam ‘Beefy’ Smith - which took place at the Manchester Arena on September 2nd.

The following morning, the 53-year-old had checked in at Manchester Airport and was waiting in the Terminal 2 departure lounge for a flight to Atlanta when he was arrested by security officials after a scan showed a handgun and ammunition in his baggage.

He was charged with possession of a handgun and possession of ammunition and remanded into custody after a hearing at Stockport Magistrates Court.
