For the high-profile Universum's Night of The Champions, tomorrow at the Sports and Convention Hall Schwerin, there is a short-term program update. WBO world champion Jürgen Brähmer got injured two days before his title defense against WBO-Spanish European champion Alejandro Lakatos and can not climb into the ring.
After the first TV main event fight between Susi Kentikian and Arely Mucino, now the second main fight will be the explosive duel between Alexander Alekseev and Denis Lebedev in a WBO cruiserweight eliminator.
On Thursday afternoon, after a training run and subsequent shadow boxing, Jürgen Brähmer felt an acute pain in his back with immobility. The WBO champion then went immediately to the hospital in Schwerin.
Universum physician Dr. Michael Ehnert said: "There was, fortunately, the initial suspicion of a slipped disc ruled out. The investigation revealed an acute, highly painful blockage in the sacroiliac joint on the left, the iliac-sacral joint. This had led to a unilateral extensive hardening of the back muscles. Chiropractic and acute physiotherapy using strong painkillers and anti-inflammatory drugs could contribute to a rapid improvement. As Brähmer really wanted to fight on Saturday, the development was waited on the first night."
Brähmer: "In the final practice on Thursday afternoon it happened. Suddenly I felt a pain in the back, it felt like an electric shock. We went directly to the clinic. There is fortunately no harm. My physiotherapist Matthias Böhme has tried everything again, but I can not fight. I'm sorry. I was so looking forward to my third fight in Schwerin and the fans. I'm going tomorrow to join the fans and track the boxing evening from outside of the ring. The program is still world class.
"Brähmer is now in Schwerin in intensive care by his personal Physiotherapeuthen Matthias Böhme of the Hamburg Sports Physio practice.
Jürgen Brähmer: "I hope I'm soon to be 100 percent fit, in order to quickly get into the ring."
