Several days ago, I reported that WBO cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli (26-1, 20 KOs) was being lined up for a unification bout with IBF title holder Steve Cunningham. Promoter Frank Warren was negotiating with Cunningham's promoter Don King, but Wayne Braithwaite, another fighter represented by King, was a strong secondary option.

It appears that Braithwaite is now moving into the driver's seat and stands a good chance of landing the fight.

BBC Sport spoke with Braithwaite, who said he is more than willing to travel across the ocean to face Maccarinelli.

"I fight anybody, anywhere and Cardiff on 21 July is not a problem for me," Braithwaite said. "A high-class fight like that needs the right money, but Don (King) and Frank (Warren) are good businessmen and I think it'll happen."

The bout would be part a triple-header in Cardiff at the Cardiff International Arena, which takes place on July 21. Alex Arthur will face Koba Gogoladze for either the vacant WBO super featherweight title or the interim version of the title, and Gavin Rees will take on WBA light welterweight champion Souleymane M'Baye.
