Former cruiserweight champion Wayne "Big Truck" Braithwaite is set to make his return to the ring in October, says the fighter to the Guyana News.
Braithwaite told the paper that after suffering back to back losses to Jean Marc Mormeck and Guillermo Jones, he was advised by a few people to move down to the light heavyweight division. Ever since the cruiserweight limit was raised from 190 to 200 pounds, the opponents of Braithwaite have been coming to the ring like heavyweights.
Braithwaite said that he does not have any intention of moving down to light heavyweight with all of the potential big names that are slated to come to the cruiserweight division.
"Chris Byrd is coming down from heavyweight and Antonio Tarver up (from light heavyweight). The division is about to get very exciting. There will be a lot of money coming into the cruiserweight division and I want to be here when it comes," Braithwaite said.
Tarver, a former world light heavyweight champion defeated Roy Jones via a stunning second round knockout in May 2005, but suffered a loss at the hands of Bernard Hopkins last month.
Byrd, once the IBF heavyweight champion, lost to Wladimir Klitschko in April. "I am very comfortable where I am and I am not thinking of going anywhere," Braithwaite added.
Braithwaite said that there are negotiations currently going on for a fight with undefeated Steve Cunningham.
