Dresden, Germany - German Jurgen Brahmer won the vacant EBU light heavyweight title with a fifth round stoppage of Frenchman Rachid Kanfouah. The fight was stopped at 2.30 of the fifth with Kanfouah´s left eye swollen shut. Brahmer, a southpaw, grabbed command right from the start.
In the the second the German was credited with a knockdown as Kanfouah was pushed over. Kanfouah came on strong in the third scoring with hooks from both hands. Brahmer - un-German in his style - slipped some punches, took some and traded with his opponent. In the fourth Brahmer again dominated the action and opened up in the fifth with Kanfouah against the ropes. Somewhere here something happend and when British referee Richie Davies called time out Rachid´s left eye was shut and Davies waved it off right away.
Promoter Klaus Peter Kohl hinted afterwards at a rematch against WBA champ Hugo Hernan Garay at the end of the year.
In the co-feature Alesia Graf defended the WIBF and GBU super flyweight titles against Magdalena Dahlen on scores of 98-92 twice and 96-94.
Alex Kuziemski kept the EBA light heavyweight title with a fifth round stoppage of Armin Dollinger.
Thomas Ulrich lost to Argentinian Mariano Nicolas Plotinsky on a eleventh round KO in a fight for the vacant WBO I/C lightheavy title.
