Sedgfield's Bradley Saunders has inked promotional a deal with Matchroom. It was reported last week that Frank Warren, his former promoter, had not renewed the 28-year-old's contract, which has allowed the former star amateur to join Eddie Hearn's stable of fighters.
Hearn revealed his new signing at a press conference in Newcastle earlier today; he has vowed to bring more big time boxing to the North-East of England. Saunders moved to 10-0 (8) under Warren—picking up the WBO Inter-Continental light-welterweight title in his last fight, a first-round KO of Ville Piispan—and has fought in the North-East in his last three fights.
A 2008 Olympian, Saunders turned over late in the hope of making it to the 2012 Games in London. However, it was not to be so he made his professional bow in February 2012 by stopping James Nesbitt in the third round.
"I am ready for big names in 2015," said Saunders, who hopes to secure a breakthrough fight in April of next year before bringing some big nights of boxing to the North-East. In the immediate future, he has been added to Hearn's November 22nd bill at Liverpool's Echo Arena, which is topped by Tony Bellew's rematch with Nathan Cleverly.
