Following a working relationship of more than two years, promoter Frank Warren opted to not renew his contract with unbeaten super lightweight prospect Bradley Saunders.
An announcement was made through Warren's press office on Wednesday. No specific reason was given for the split, though the brief statement suggested the two sides left on amicable terms.
"Mr. Warren, who signed Saunders as an amateur and guided him to (an) unbeaten 10-fight professional record and the WBO Intercontinental title, wishes Mr. Saunders all the best in his future career," read the statement.
Saunders was a gifted amateur who represented Great Britain during the 2008 Beijing Olympics. An attempt at a second Olympic run kept him in the amateurs in lieu of turning pro with the Class of 2008, but he would eventually enter the pro ranks himself in 2012, where he signed with Warren's outfit.
Given his rich amateur background, it's been a slow road to stardom for Saunders (10-0, 8KOs). The 28-year old Brit picked up the pace a bit in 2014, including his winning a regional title in his most recent fight, a 1st round knockout of Ville Piispanen tis past June in Newcastle, England.
Saunders was slated to appear on the previously scheduled July 26 show to have been headlined by the heavyweight rematch between Tyson Fury and Dereck Chisora. The show went on despite the main event falling through and rescheduled for Nov. 29, although Saunders also withdrew from the bill after suffering an untimely injury.
The unbeaten prospect has fallen a bit off of the radar since then, with nothing of note lined up for the immediate future.
