WBA junior welterweight champion Amir Khan will return to the UK on April 16. Khan's opponent is still being considered. Beyond the April return, the British champion is completely focused on fighting the winner of the 140-pound unification between Devon Alexander and Tim Bradley. The Alexander-Bradley unification takes place on January 29 in Pontiac, Michigan.
Following last month's win over Marcos Maidana in Las Vegas, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer held a meeting with Khan, members of Khan's management, and a rep from HBO. One of the main topics being discussed was a July fight, in the United States, between Khan and the winner of Alexander/Bradley.
"Amir wants to fight the winner of Bradley-Alexander," Schaefer said. "And the date we are anticipating is July 30. Amir (who is Muslim) would like to do that before Ramadan and Amir has agreed to do that fight in the U.S. Having said that, Bradley and Alexander have business to take care of and Amir Khan is going to have to take care of business on April 16."
There is also a prize for the Bradley-Alexander loser. Schaefer would like to match the loser against Marcos Maidana.
"Another fight we would like to do which really excites me is whoever ends up on the short end (between Bradley and Alexander) would fight Marcos Maidana," Schaefer said. "I think Timothy Bradley is a fantastic fighter and Devon Alexander is an amazing fighter. They're all great, and so is Marcos Maidana."
