Just when it seems like it’s over, the sweet science prepares to gear up for a new twelve month season.  After strong showing for the sport in 2007 and 08, can 2009 continue the trends?  Already there are fights fans can look forward to, beginning in January with a Welterweight clash between Antonio Margarito and Shane Mosley and continuing in February at Jr. Bantamweight with Vic Darchinyan-Jorge Arce.  There are also the big questions like:

Will Floyd Mayweather return and, if so, will it be for the winner of Manny Pacquiao-Ricky Hatton?

Is there enough cash to make a sure-fire war between Kelly Pavlik and Arthur Abraham at Middleweight?

Can the Heavyweights really matter?

There’s plenty of time for answers.  Part of the questions will be provided by the emergent and maintaining best in each of seventeen divisions.  Where do we begin the year?  Let’s consult the first quarterly divisional ratings of 2009, along with scheduled bouts for the first month of the year.
