Heavyweight contender Cedric "The Bos" Boswell (31-1) reached out to BoxingScene.com to respond to recent comments made by fellow heavyweight contender Tony Thompson. "None of these guys will fight me. I have been trying to get fights with guys like Cedric Boswell and Fres Oquendo and they have all turned me down." Thompson said to different media outlets.
Boswell doesn't deny that the offer was made but he wants to set the record straight.
"They offered me the fight on the Ward-Green undercard. They only gave me four weeks notice but that wasn't the main issue. I would have still taken the fight but they offered no money. I told them they were crazy and that I am in this business to make money and to fight for a title. I am not here just to be fighting for nothing. I just want to let him (Tony Thompson) know that he just needs to make the money right and we can fight."
Boswell also wanted to address Audley Harrison and his attempts to get a fight with either of the Klitschko brothers. "I want to talk about Audley Harrison. This guy is trying to fight the Klitschko's? He hasn't fought anybody. He isn't rated on any of the organizations. How can he even be mentioned as a possible opponent? Just because he won a (vacant) European title doesn't mean anything."
Boswell feels that Harrison needs to fight a rated contender like himself before he is in position to fight for any of the world titles. "He needs to fight someone like me before he gets a shot at a Klitschko." When asked if he was willing to fight Harris, Boswell said, "I will fight Harrison any day even though it doesn't do me any good to fight him. I would do it if it would get me to the Klitschko's."
Boswell has had trouble getting fights with rated contenders that will help him move higher in rankings. He also informed BoxingScene that he is a promotional free agent.
"I can't get these types of fights that I need and I know that closed mouths don't get fed. I am a free agent now so it should be easy to get a fight with me. You don't have to talk to anybody but me. If you need options I will give options to fight anybody in the top five or top ten that will get me where I need to be."
We ended the conversation by talking about former light heavyweight champion Antonio Tarver who has been talking about making a run at heavyweight. "I will fight Antonio Tarver yesterday. If he wants to fight then lets do it."
Boswell has requested that any managers or promoters interested in matching their fighters with him to contact him directly.
