George Groves has developed the mental fortitude to take Carl Froch's world super-middleweight titles this winter, according to manager and trainer Adam Booth. The unbeaten Londoner has worked his way into a position as mandatory challenger for Froch's IBF belt, and the WBA title will also be up for grabs in late November or early December. Sky Bet make Groves, in his first contest at world level, a 7/2 outsider against an opponent who last fought a non-title bout more than five years ago.
To date Groves' most high-profile win came in May 2011 via split decision against long-time rival James DeGale, whose personal insults tested Groves' patience in the run-up to the fight. And his trainer Booth reckons that experience marked the start of a period of rapid mental development.
He told Sky Sports News: "George has developed immensely, not just technically but mentally and emotionally with the challenges he's had in front of him in the ring and in the gym. I feel so confident in George Groves right now that I can't wait for his fight against Carl. If people feel it's too soon for George that's better for him because, when he wins, the light is going to be that much brighter on him."
