The former trainer of George Groves, Adam Booth, believes Carl Froch has finally broken down after years of having tough fights against top fighters at super middleweight. Last Saturday in Manchester, Groves dropped Froch hard in the first round and outboxed for most of the contest. Froch was stunned several times in the fight and didn't start turning the tide until the ninth and final round of the fight. Froch was down on all of the official scorecards when the fight was stopped.
“I’d be very surprised if Carl Froch steps into the ring again,” Booth told Talksport: “And, if he does, it would be ill-advised. He’s deteriorated. On Saturday night, he was repeatedly hurt and almost knocked out by a young, fresh talented challenger.”
The fight came to an end in the ninth round, when Groves was in trouble and the referee jumped in very early to stop the fight in controversial fashion. Like the thousands who booed in protest at the venue, Booth disagrees with the decision by referee Howard Foster.
"George boxed out of his skin against Froch,” Booth said. "Howard Foster, unfortunately, accidentally in my opinion, ended up stopping the fight. George knocked into him and he just stopped it. I think he made the mistake by accident but, be under no illusions, it was a huge mistake.”
