Unbeaten rising South African welterweight Bongani “the Cyclone” Mwelase (14-0, 12KOs) has vowed to batter IBO champion Lovemore Ndou (47-11-2, 31KOs) on September 18 at Emperors Palace.
Mwelase spoke with South African outlet Sowetan and said he was very upset with Ndou questioning his desire to be the best. He says Ndou is well beyond his best and he plans to finish him off once and for all. Mwelase wants to make Ndou a memory.
Ndou has a big edge in experience, but Mwelase is not bothered by the champion's long record and the opponents he faced in the past. No fighter has been able to stop Ndou, not even hard hitters like Miguel Cotto or Kermit Cintron. If Mwelase pulls it off, he can make a quick name for himself as a rising contender at 147-pounds.
“Lovemore is a washed-out fighter and an old-timer who lacks the skill. At 38 he is heading for an unplanned retirement. I’m going to knock him down. Our fight will not be a David versus Goliath affair but a simple suicide for Lovemore,” Mwelase said to the paper.
“I am not threatened by his fight record. This will be another knockout. The IBO belt will be my perfect birthday present. I turn 28 on August 23.”
