Despite the news that broke in the morning about Mike Alvarado being arrested for gun charges over the weekend (https://www.boxingscene.com/alvarado-arrested-on-gun-charges-rios-fight-still-on--86001), his HBO televised trilogy fight against Brandon Rios - which is scheduled for January 24th at the 1stBank Center in Bloomfield, Colorado - will proceed as planned.

"He's out on bail and it's a non-violent kind of thing and it will proceed along the criminal path. It won't effect that fight," said Bob Arum, CEO of Top Rank, to BoxingScene.com.

Top Rank is promoting this fight and handles the career of 'Mile High' Alvarado, who hails from Denver.

Arum, a former attorney who graduated from Harvard Law School, opined:

"(Alvarado) has defenses for this. I mean, for example, does he have a license for the gun? Secondly, is it an illegal search-and-seizure? The cops say that they saw him put it in the glove compartment - that's a little hard to believe."

Regardless, it wouldn't be the lead-up to an Alvarado fight without something involving the troubled fighter, who is no stranger to legal problems.

"Exactly," said Arum, chuckling.
