Cruiserweight contender BJ Flores spoke to BoxingScene.com about his recent loss to IBO champion Danny Green. Flores gave the Australian a lot of credit for switching up his game plan after the first few rounds of the fight.

"It was a fight that was very different than what we planned for. Danny has always been a come forward aggressive fighter and he completely changed in his fight with me. He showed he can be a smart fighter and boxer.  An intelligent counterpuncher."

Flores started out strong and controlled the action with his jab as Green started out using his typical aggressive style.

"I was able to hit him with hard jabs and counter left hooks when he would rush in.  I was also able to use the left uppercut effectively.  He realized this and changed his entire style early."

Flores thought the fight was closer than the scores indicated. The judges favored Green by the wide margins of 118-110 118-111 and 117-112.

"Many of the local newspapers had the fight a draw or one point either way.  It was a very close fight and I needed to make it more one sided to get the decision."

The ESPN boxing analyst was happy that he and Green were able to give the fans their money's worth. He also feels that the fans would like to see a rematch as well.

"I am glad we were able to give the fans a hard fought competitive fight and I want to congratulate Danny on a great win.  I very much look forward to the rematch.  We are working on that for this summer."

Flores said that Green also thought the fight was very competitive. Flores feels that his 15 month layoff may have played a roll in his timing being off but didn't want to use that as a reason for losing the fight.

"He (Green) said it was the most difficult fight of his life. I was there and in his face all night. Coming off a 15 month layoff my timing might have been a little off. No excuses. But now I know I belong in the ring with the very top guys."

Flores feels his advantage in strength was a key to the fight and the key reason as to why Green couldn't bully him in the ring and ultimately had to change his style.

"Danny tried to impose his will early but during the second round he realized his plan wouldn't work. Before the fight both he and his trainers were confident of the knockout.  I knew it would be different.  He turned into a counterpuncher and used movement to offset me.  Who would have ever thought the he would be going backwards and counterpunching?"

Flores finished up by saying he was in great shape and that he enjoyed his experience in Australia. He also said that the next time around things will be different.

"I was 100% percent in the best physical condition of my life. But his gameplan was effective and he kept the fight at a distance. I followed him around the ring for 12 rounds trying to execute my gameplan but in the end I needed to make it more convincing in his hometown.  I will be completely prepared for this version of Danny Green in the rematch.  I look forward to going back to Australia.  The people were amazing and I had a beautiful experience."
