Billy Joe Saunders has been nominated to fight for his first title by the British Boxing Board of Control.
Purse bids have been put out for a potential clash with English super-middleweight champion Paul David.
Saunders, unbeaten in eight professional fights, will box over eight rounds on May 21 at London's O2 Arena.
He has been eyeing a title shot for the last six months, and now looks like he could get his chance.
The traveller, who went to the 2008 Olympics, suffered a hand injury last year, but has been making his way back to form in 2011.
David, from Liverpool, was offered a shot at then British champion Paul Smith last year before the fight fell through.
The 26-year-old has a 12-5 record with five stoppages, and picked up the English belt back in 2008.
