Two promising boxers from the famed ALA Gym of respected Cebu boxing patron Tony Aldeguer have scored impressive victories abroad, breaking the string of defeats suffered by over-matched Filipinos in Thailand and Japan.
Philippines junior welterweight champion Bart Abapo won by a technical decision when the referee stopped the fight after the Filipino champion suffered a nasty cut due to an accidental head-butt inflicted by Korean champion Dong Geun Jang in the eighth round. At the time of the stoppage Abapo was ahead on the scorecards of the judges.
Over in Jakarta, light flyweight Rocky Fuentes scored a smashing fifth round knockout over Indonesian champion Dolfi Lolaru in a scheduled ten round bout at the RCTI studios.
