Aleksander Alekseev, former fighter and promoter for EC Boxing, says he is talking to promoter Yvon Michel of Canada to finalize the details of a final IBF light heavyweight eliminator between 30-year-old Russian contender Arthur Beterbiev (9-0) and his compatriot, also 30-years-old, Igor Mikhalkin (17-1), who holds the EBU title at 175.
The bout is scheduled for November 28 in Canada.
Beterbiev returns on November 28th in Quebec as part of a Showtime tripleheader. The event will be headlined by James DeGale defending his IBF super middleweight title against Canadian star Lucian Bute.
Alekseev, who promotes Mikhalkin, says his fighter is ready for such a contest and they are prepared to move forward if a deal is reached.
Mikhalkin came in the picture after numerous contenders either refused to fight Beterbiev or were unavailable, including another EC Boxing fighter in Karo Murat.
"We are currently in discussions for this fight, we are going over the details. Everyone understands that the fight is very risky, but it is a calculated move on our part. Igor is ready for the big fights," Alekseev said.
