LAS VEGAS - According to former two-time welterweight champion Andre Berto (30-3, 23 KOs), he's paying no attention to the incoming verbal jabs from Floyd Mayweather Sr., the father and trainer of WBC/WBA welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs).
Berto will challenge Mayweather on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. The bout headlines a four fight Showtime Pay-Per-View card.
During Wednesday's final press conference, the verbal assault continued when Floyd Sr. addressed the media and recited one of his "poems" in Berto's direction. The poem was filled with insults, advising Berto that he's going to be knocked out on Saturday.
Floyd Sr. has been trying to get under Berto's skin for the last few days. The former Olympian is not allowing himself to get lured in to a war of words with the veteran trainer.
The poem on Wednesday was not Floyd Sr.'s first, or last, of the pre-fight promotion. He recited several of these poems, about Berto, during Mayweather's open workout last week.
"He always has some type of lame ass rap that he tries come up with, trying to do some old Muhammad Ali rendition. He's getting a little older, maybe he's getting a little senile," Berto said.
