BoxingScene.com was advised that a proposed fight between Bernard Hopkins and IBO cruiserweight champion Danny Green is in serious trouble over money. Hopkins told BoxingScene's Robert Morales that he wants a 60-40 split on the money.
"Right now we are just crossing the 'T's and dotting the 'I's, waiting to see if that 60-40 is enticing enough for Danny Green," Hopkins said.
Green's adviser Gary Shaw told BoxingScene that a 60-40 split is unacceptable. There was a prior verbal communication for a 50-50 split and Shaw/Green were under the impression that everyone was on the same page. There is also a back and forth tug of war on the domestic and overseas television money.
"He wants to change the deal from 50-50 to 60-40. I spoke with Danny Green late last night and 60-40 is unacceptable. Danny Green himself spoke to Hopkins yesterday and Hopkins said that he wanted to keep the American TV money and Danny Green said 'that's not happeneing,'" Shaw said.
Shaw plans to speak with Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer to map out a different deal structure.
"Hopkins can keep the American TV money and Danny Green can keep all of the other money in Australia - or we can go back to what was perceived as a fair deal for everyone, which was a 50-50 deal," Shaw said.
