Mexican slugger Miguel "Alacran" Berchelt is living the dream, desires the glory and is giving everything in his preparation to face his biggest boxing commitment on January 28 in Indio, California - when he faces the world super featherweight champion of the World Boxing Council (WBC), Francisco "Bandido" Vargas.
The fight between Berchelt (30-1, 27 KOs) and Vargas (23-0-2, 17 knockouts) will be transmitted in the United States by HBO and in Mexico by Azteca 7, La Casa del Boxeo.
Berchelt, who holds the WBO's interim-super featherweight championship, is making his camp in Hermosillo, Sonora, where he's been residing for 2 years and is led by renowned Sonora coach Alfredo Caballero.
For Berchelt there are no festivities, only intense work. In the morning he is in the gym with a fitness trainer and in the evenings he holds strong sessions of sparrings and physical activities.
"The triumphs come with work, dedication, commitment and passion," says Miguel.
The fighter born in Quintana Roo, he is assisted in the sparring sessions by Daniel Caballero, Daniel Lugo, Angel Solomon and Pedro "La Roca" Campa at the Caballero Boxing Gym in the colony Los Jardínes, north of the city of Hermosillo.
"Alacrán" is represented by the recognized manager Mario Abraham of Mérida, Yucatán and his promoter is Zanfer that is directed by Fernando Beltrán Rendón.
Vargas has been in Fight of The Year battles in 2015 and 2016 when he dethroned Japan's Takashi Miura and this year defended his title in a major draw with Orlando Salido.
Berchelt, assured that this is the opportunity he was waiting for - "I will shake the boxing world on January 28th."
In the same card, there will be two contenders for the same super featherweight crown, Mexican Miguel "Micky" Roman (56-11, 43 KO) and Japan's Takashi Miura (30-3-2, 23), will battle for the WBC interim-title and the mandatory right to face the winner of the main event.
