Dave Coldwell of David Coldwell Boxing flexed his financial muscles earlier today by tabling a winning bid for the BBBoC mandated British light-heavyweight title showdown between current holder Tony Bellew and former EBU titlist Danny McIntosh.

Coldwell succeed with an £80,000 bid and is now looking at a date and venue for the clash, which has to take place before the end of May.  Dave has raised eyebrows with his astute bidding in the past, he won the James DeGale versus George Groves British title purse bid last year after tabling a whopping £400,000 purse – he later passed the right to stage the contest over to Frank Warren.

This time, though, Coldwell intends to build a show around the Bellew-McIntosh showdown, the former fighter turned manager, trainer and promoter is delighted with today’s business and has made a real statement of intent.

It will be Bellew’s first fight since losing to Nathan Cleverly for the WBO light-heavyweight belt.  The Liverpudlian today told me that he is ready to shut McIntosh up as the Norwich man has repeatedly called for Bellew, most notably when threatening to ‘diminish’ Bellew should the two meet.

McIntosh picked up the EBU title when upsetting Thierry Karl last January; he lost the belt to Eduard Gutknecht in May and has not fought since.  The 31-year-old now has a chance to get back in the title mix although he may find the fired up ‘Bomber’ too much to handle at this stage in their respective careers.
