Light-heavyweight contender Tony Bellew wants to position himself for another crack at a world title in 2012 but that isn’t the only thing that the likeable Liverpudlian is hoping for over the course of the New Year.
The 29 year-old has been linked to a title defence against former European champion Danny McIntosh in early 2012 and is then seeking promoter Frank Warren to work his magic and conjure up another world title shot for one of his fighters.
Bellew then wants to see fellow Scouser David Price come through his eliminator with John McDermott in January before moving on to British heavyweight champion Tyson Fury and ending his unbeaten run.
“On the whole, I’m 50-50 about 2011,” The Bomber told local newspaper The Liverpool Echo.
“I’m happy with my performances but not so much with six of the rounds and the decision of the Cleverly fight.
There is always room for improvement and I have two very driven coaches. I think 2011 has been a good year but 2012 could be massive.
“Next year I would love to see Price shut Tyson Fury up and there is a good match.
“I’m just dying to see Pricey shut Fury up,” he added.
With former world cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli entering the mix at 175lbs, there is a potentially huge domestic battle that could happen in 2012 and the winner could then be in line to face Britain’s only current world title holder Nathan Cleverly.
