WBC cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew believes Kell Brook and Amir Khan should bypass any planned interim fights to face each other in a major showdown on UK soil.
The two fighters are in talks to face each other next summer, possibly at the O2 Arena or Wembley.
Khan has been discussing the possibility of taking an interim-fight. He is also the mandatory challenger to WBC welterweight champion Danny Garcia, who faces WBA champion Keith Thurman in a unification on March 4th. Brook, who holds the IBF welterweight title, has a mandatory obligation to undefeated Errol Spence Jr.
Brook was in action back in September, when he moved up by two full weight divisions and was stopped in five rounds by WBA, IBF, IBO, WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin. Khan has been out of the ring since May, when he moved up to a catch-weight of 155-pounds to challenge Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, who knocked out the Bolton boxer in six rounds.
Bellew feels that Brook should forget Spence, and Khan should forget Garcia, and they should just come together to fight.
"Kell Brook against Amir Khan will capture people's imaginations and to be totally honest, both have got nowhere else to go. They both need each other massively, because there are no big fights out there for either one of them, unless they face each other. I know Amir and Kell think differently to that, but the truth of the matter is, they both need each other," Bellew told Sky Sports.
"Kell facing Errol Spence Jr is a 50-50 fight for basically a tenth of the amount of money he would get to face Amir. Amir is talking about facing someone like Danny Garcia, which is crazy because I just think strip it all down - these two are massive names in Britain and British boxing is absolutely booming at the minute, and they should face each other. Simple as that."
