WBC cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew believes Kell Brook (36-0, 25KOs) is taking on the biggest task that any British fighter has ever taken in history.
Brook, who holds the IBF welterweight title, is moving up by thirteen pounds to challenge WBC/WBA/IBO/IBF middleweight king Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (35-0, 32KOs) at the O2 Arena in London.
Bellew himself has made a large transition in weight, when he made the jump from light heavyweight to cruiserweight - which is by far the biggest leap in weight between the divisions with a 25-pound gap.
Bellew defied a lot of odds by becoming the cruiserweight champ. He admits Brook is really going in for a very big in ask in being able to knock off the heavily favored Golovkin, but he believes the unbeaten welterweight has a shot.
Bellew feels the key to beating Golovkin is to keep him on the backfoot and press forward. He says Golovkin does not fight as well when he's the one going backwards. He also views Brook as being the best opponent of Golovkin's entire career.
"You're talking about the most feared pound-for-pound fighter in the world in Gennady Golovkin and Kell is stepping up to the challenge. This is the biggest task ever took on by a British fighter in my opinion," said Bellew to Sky Sports.
"It's a make or break fight, it's one for the ages, this is one of them ones that's got crossover appeal. It appeals to the masses, it's just a huge mega event, some fights always remain as big massive fights, this is an event that stands alone. he best welterweight in the world against the best middleweight in the world and it's one I can wait for, I anticipate it to be a fantastic fight.
"Kell Brook is the biggest test of Gennady Golovkin's career; we're going to see how he likes it when things aren't going this way in this fight. Kell Brook needs to seize the moment, he really has to put his foot on the gas at times, I believe personally, the only way to beat Golovkin is to put him on the back foot and there hasn't been a middleweight who has been able to do that yet. Kell's a welterweight coming up, it is a big ask, but believe you me, he'll give it everything he possibly can."
